Picking a source image or video (the media picker)

Many workstation tools let you start from content you already have. When you tap Select content, a picker opens so you can browse your own generations, ideas from the community, and curated inspiration, then choose one image or video to drop into the tool.

What is the media picker?

It's the panel that appears when a tool asks you to choose an existing image or video as its starting point or reference. Instead of uploading a fresh file, you browse APOB content in a scrollable grid and tap one item to select it. The tool then uses that item as your base image, source video, reference, and so on, depending on which tool opened the picker.

How do I open it?

Inside a tool that needs a source, tap Select content (you'll usually see it next to an Upload image or Upload video button). The picker opens as a full dialog on desktop and as a full-screen page on mobile. If you're not signed in, tapping it asks you to log in first.

What are the tabs at the top?

Depending on the tool, you'll see up to three tabs:

  • Generation — your own past creations. This is your personal library of things you've already generated.

  • Inspiration — ideas drawn from other apobers' generations on this model, to help you get started.

  • Community — public content shared by the wider community.

Not every tool shows all three. Some tools only offer Generation and Inspiration, for example. The tabs only appear once the picker has finished its first load, so it's normal to see the grid briefly before the tab row settles.

Which tab opens first?

The picker tries to land you on the most useful tab automatically. It checks tabs in order — Generation first, then Inspiration, then Community — and opens the first one that actually has something you can pick. If your Generation tab is empty (or everything in it is unavailable), it quietly moves you to the next tab that has content, so you don't get stuck staring at an empty feed.

How do I pick an item?

Just tap the image or video you want. The picker closes and the tool fills in your selection. On desktop you can hover over a video thumbnail to preview it playing; on mobile, previews stay still to save data.

Can I filter the Community tab?

When you're on the Community tab, a row of filter chips may appear above the grid (for example to narrow to a particular kind of media). Tap a chip to switch the filter; the selected chip turns dark and the feed reloads to match. The available filters depend on the tool.

Why can't I select an item that's still generating?

If you tap something that's still being created, you'll see "Generating. Can't select right now." Wait until it finishes, then tap it again.

Why don't I see some of my generations?

The picker hides anything that wouldn't work as a clean source:

  • Items whose generation failed.

  • Items made with a model that's no longer available to you (for example a private model you don't own, or a model that's been deleted).

This keeps your choices to content you can actually build on.

What if I want to use a brand-new file instead?

The picker only shows existing APOB content. To bring in your own photo or clip, close the picker and use the Upload image / Upload video button next to Select content instead. Uploads have their own size and format limits (for images, typically PNG or JPG up to 10MB); the exact rules are enforced in-app and shown on the tool when a file is rejected.

How do I scroll for more?

The grid loads more items automatically as you scroll down, so just keep scrolling. When you reach the end, there's nothing more to load for that tab.

On mobile

The picker takes over the whole screen as its own page rather than a floating dialog. The tabs sit along the top and Community filter chips (when present) sit just beneath them. Tap an item to pick it and return to the tool; use the close control to back out without choosing anything.
