Chat to edit lets you change an image by describing what you want different in plain language — no masks or manual tools. It's the first tab in Edit Image and is great for restyling a photo, changing its look, or making targeted tweaks.
How do I edit an image with Chat to edit?
Open the Chat to edit tab in Edit Image.
Add your Base image — either Select content (from your own media — followed by curated inspiration — or the Community gallery) or Upload image from your device.
In the Edit description box, type how you want the image changed.
(Optional) Add elements and additional images for extra guidance.
Press Generate.
The first time you open the tab you'll see a hint: "Select or upload the image you want to edit in the Base image section, then describe your edits in Edit description. You can also add elements and additional images for extra guidance."
What should I write in the Edit description?
Describe the change you want in everyday language. The placeholder suggests examples like _"Make it photorealistic, cute baby style"_ or _"Make it Ghibli style."_ You can describe a style change, a small fix, or a complete restyle. The description box holds up to 20,000 characters of text, and a live counter shows how much you've used. Elements you add appear inline as chips in the description; type @ to mention one of your added elements at the cursor.
How do I add elements?
Click + Element below the description (or + Additional image — both open the same panel) to open the Element and additional image panel. Each + Add element slot opens the element picker where you can choose a Personal or Community element, an influencer, a piece of content, or create a new element. An added element becomes a chip in the Edit description; clicking its card inserts the chip again at the cursor, the (i) shows its details, and the cross removes it (and its chips) after a confirmation.
How do I add additional images?
In the same Element and additional image panel, use the Upload image tile to attach one or more extra images as references to guide the edit — for example, a style or object you want the result to follow. They're completely optional. Each appears as a thumbnail you can remove with its cross button; the base image and your text are still the main inputs.
How many elements and additional images can I add?
Elements and additional images share one combined limit that depends on the selected quality: 6 on Ultra 4K and 9 on UltraS 4K. The panel header shows the current count, e.g. "(3/6)". On desktop and mobile alike, the element slot list shows every slot the current quality's allowance leaves for elements, plus one locked slot while a higher quality unlocks more — clicking or tapping the locked slot switches up and reveals that tier's full slot list at once. A locked slot explains which quality unlocks it ("Element {n} only available for …": as a hover hint on desktop, as a toast on mobile), and clicking or tapping it switches to that quality. Empty element slots also lock as soon as the combined count reaches the limit — including a middle slot freed by deleting an element, if uploads have since refilled the pool; such a slot shows "You can add up to 6 elements and additional images." instead, and clicking or tapping it switches to the higher quality when one still has room (on UltraS 4K, the top tier, it stays locked). If you try to switch down to a quality that can't fit everything you've already added, the switch is blocked and a notice tells you how many items to remove first — e.g. "Remove 1 elements or additional images to switch to Ultra 4K." Delete the extras, then switch.
What's the difference between the Base image and the additional images?
The Base image is the picture being edited — the result is a new version of it. Additional images and elements are just guidance the model can look at; they aren't edited and aren't required.
Why is the Generate button greyed out?
For Chat to edit you need both a base image and a non-empty description. If either is missing, Generate stays disabled. Generate also waits until your selected model has finished loading. The credit cost is shown next to Generate; it depends on your plan and the quality you choose (Ultra 4K or UltraS 4K).
Can I remove or change the base image?
Yes. Hover the base image and use the Delete control to clear it, then add a different one. You can also remove any element or additional image at any time from the panel.
What happens if my image won't upload?
If an upload fails you'll see "Failed to upload the image. Please try again later." Try the same file again, or remove it and pick another. A failed additional image can be retried by tapping it in the grid. APOB recommends starting from an image you generated in APOB for the best results.
On mobile
On mobile the Base image appears first in its own area, with a note recommending an APOB-generated image (or an error message if an upload failed). The Edit description sits below. While its reference pool is empty and the section is closed, the 24px-high + Element shortcut opens the Element picker directly and + Additional image opens the native file chooser directly. Saving an Element or selecting at least one upload then opens the section inside the description card; cancelling either picker leaves it closed. After any Element or Additional image exists, tapping either shortcut from the closed state only reopens the section. A grey Element and additional image bar closes the section, where the 22px compact element chips and uploaded-image grid live. The compact chevron matches Text to Video and expands the full element list directly over the lower part of the description card; completing an element pick closes the overlay, while cancelling the picker keeps it open. Everything scrolls vertically.
